"Like many parents out there, we needed an effective and simple strategy to make sure our girls were getting all the nutrition they needed," said former Roman Gina Luttrell.
That’s what led her to create SnackerTracker. Geared towards children ages 2-8 she describes it as "an easy-to-use nutritional tracking system designed to help children learn how to eat healthy and stay in shape."
President and founder of SnackerTracker, Luttrell is the daughter of Cathy Franco, North George Street and Fred Macchia, Karlen Road.
It has been learned that SnackerTracker has been selected as a recipient of an iParenting Media Award for the 2008 Best Products Call.
The iParenting Media Awards is certified by ISO 9001:2000, the internationally recognized standard of quality assurance.
It’s web site, www.snackertracker.com, says "SnackerTracker ® is a nutritional tracking system that makes it easy and fun for busy parents to make sure their children are eating well-balanced diets, learning how to make healthy nutritional choices and finding great ways for the whole family to become active."
The SnackerTracker kit includes: a SnackerTracker magnet for your refrigerator, a SnackerTracker nutritional guide, full of information to help you keep your kids healthy and a dry erase marker for $19.95.
Children note what they eat and their activity.
Luttrell said, "My husband Todd and I founded our company in December of 2006. We sold our first SnackerTracker by December of 2007. From idea to inception, and everything in between (Trademark, design, production), we brought our product to the market in one year - all while both working full-time jobs and being the busy parents of two children." Their children are Emma, 3, and Avery, 15 months.
She said, "The idea came to me in the middle of the night and I don’t think I slept for three days. Like many parents out there, we needed an effective and simple strategy to make sure our girls were getting all the nutrition they needed. We didn’t want to wake up one day and have a child that ate only chicken fingers and French fries by the time she was 5. We knew we had to create this product. We designed it to help every parent meet the challenges of providing well-balanced diets to their children and teaching them to make healthy nutritional choices."
www.snackertracker.com has items to color and a word game.
The SnackerTracker Nutritional Guide, which is included in each SnackerTracker package, educates parents on the basics of following the recommended daily food intake for children, gives examples of healthy food children can snack on, provides tips on how to incorporate activity, helps each parent decide what is right for their child and explains what to look for on the Nutritional Facts label of packaged food.
With childhood obesity on the rise, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over the past 3 decades the childhood obesity rate has more than doubled for preschool children ages 2 to 5 years and it has more than tripled for children ages 6 to 11 years.
"Overweight adolescents have a 70% of becoming overweight or obese adults," said Todd Luttrell, Vice President of SnackerTracker. This increases to 80% if one or more parents are overweight or obese. This is why it is so important to provide children with the right tools from the start. It is our goal to give families what they need to educate their children on how to live a healthy lifestyle."
